ESTHER
HYE JIN
CHUNG.
Growing up in Guatemala, I saw how social, racial, and tech inequities robbed individuals of reaching their full potential. I am committed to helping create a more equitable community where all can pursue their best lives. I feel purpose when I combine my interests in systems, art, and philosophy to create meaningful experiences. For a decade, I have designed products and services for top NGOs to improve systemic policy and resource inequity problems—including access to food, housing, education, and healthcare. I saw a communication barrier in my community and wanted to address it using design. I believe the most impactful designs not only solve problems—they also restore dignity.
My logo is a merger between my name and nickname. In Hangul, the Korean alphabet, the consonants to "Esther" are "ㅇ, ㅅ, ㄷ." Growing up, I was called "pandita," which means "little panda” in Spanish.
